MARIETTA, OHIO - Christopher Newport University bounced back in a big way Friday night after dropping its season-opener at Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday night. The Captains, defending National Champion and pre-season top pick, posted 53 points in the opening half and cruised to a 94-68 victory over Kenyon College in the Shrine Tournament at Ben Johnson Arena.

Jahn Hines registered 11 points each. Parrish and Hines each pulled down six rebounds to lead the Captains on the boards.
Eight minutes into the game, the Captains trailed, 24-17, before erupting for a 24-3 run and cruising to a 53-38 intermission lead. Christopher Newport then out-scored Kenyon, 41-30, in the second half to secure its first victory of the young season. CNU, now 1-1, will continue in the two-day Shrine Tournament Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. game vs. host Marietta College. The Pioneers are 1-0 and opened their season on Friday by beating Washington & Jefferson, 93-66.
John Krikorian's squad will have its home opener on Wednesday night vs. Randolph-Macon College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
