NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday night as they play host to the Salisbury University Sea Gulls (4-2-4) at 6:00 p.m. on Captains Field. Prior to kickoff, head coach
Justin Chezem and the rest of the team will honor a group of 11 players in a special pre-game Senior Night ceremony.

CNU is coming off a 2-1 win over Roanoke College on Wednesday night in come-from-behind fashion. Leading scorer
Mason Field notched a second-half equalizer before
Jonathon Leiding finished on the winner in the 80th minute. Sophomore
Barry Jones assisted on both goals as the Captains erased a 1-0 first-half deficit to capture their seventh win in nine games this season.
It was the seventh time this season that Christopher Newport has scored multiple goals in a game as the Captains are averaging 2.33 goals per game so far. Field is among the league leaders in goals with seven and also ranks in the top-25 nationally in game-winning goals so far this year. Of his seven goals this year, five have either tied or won the game for the Captains.
Behind Field, rookie
Drew McWhinney has had a standout freshman campaign with 10 points through his first seven career games. McWhinney has scored four times while adding a pair of assists. Fellow freshman
Alex Stell has also added three tallies for CNU in his first year.
Defensively,
Kyle Stenzel and
Jacob Dudley, two of the 11 seniors being honored on Saturday night, have started all nine games on the back line. They have contributed to three shutouts and helped hold opponents to a 0.89 goals-against average.
Salisbury will counter with a lineup that has already tied second-ranked Messiah this year and suffered just a one-goal setback to second-ranked Mary Washington, 3-2. The Sea Gulls are led by junior midfielder Brady Young this season with nine points on four goals and an assist. Two others, Sean Barwick and Alex Floyd, have added three goals and a helper for seven points so far this year.
Following the Saturday evening matchup, the Captains will return to action on Wednesday, October 11 against St. Mary's (Md.) before wrapping up the home slate next Saturday, October 14 against Mary Washington.
