NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday evening, set to host Roanoke College (4-5-1) at 5:00 p.m. on Captains Field. Prior to the matchup, the United Soccer Coaches announced the fourth regular season Top 25 rankings of the season and CNU Men's Soccer is listed among the "others receiving votes" category after a strong 3-0 win over Stockton University on Sunday afternoon.
The Captains improved to 6-1-1 overall this season with the win over the Ospreys and will look to continue their success against Roanoke on Wednesday night. The all-time series favors Christopher Newport, 10-5-1, with four wins in the last five matchups but the Maroons secured a 2-1 win the last time the two teams played in 2018. The series dates back to 1980 but this will be just the eighth trip for Roanoke to Newport News.

Christopher Newport earned this week's Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after securing the third shutout of the season behind sophomore goalkeeper
Hayden Dewey. He and
Dom Stumpo combined for a clean sheet against the Ospreys while Dewey made five saves in the contest.
Offensively, senior midfielder
Mason Field had a brace, scoring the first and third goals in the game, while rookie
Drew McWhinney adding his fourth goal of the season as well. Field leads the team in scoring with 12 points while McWhinney is not far behind with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Seven different CNU players have scored this season with
Alex Stell and
Elton Quintanilla also dropping in multiple tallies.
Defensively, fifth-year seniors
Kyle Stenzel and
Jacob Dudley have started all eight games on the back line to help anchor a rotation in front of Dewey that has included
Jonathon Leiding,
Yazan Yaghmmour,
Ben Stefanon, and
Asher Kuzemka.
Ryan Kiely started all four games to start the year in the back before suffering a season-ending injury against N.C. Wesleyan on September 16.
Roanoke has already played ten games this season and the team is averaging 1.30 goals per game. The Maroons have gotten three goals from Michael Ramsey with one gamewinner and two goals and an assist by Kyle Butcher. The Roanoke defense is allowing 1.50 goals per game with Luca Gustafson and Denzel Marufu sharing time in goal for the Maroons.
Following the Wednesday night tilt, the Captains will return to action this Saturday evening against Salisbury University for Senior Night at 6:00 p.m.
