SALISBURY, Md. - Christopher Newport fell in both matches at Salisbury on Saturday dropping a match with No. 10 NYU and Salisbury.
NYU 3, Christopher Newport 0 | (25-15, 25-18, 25-21)
First Set
NYU claimed the first five points of the set to quickly open up a 12-3 lead. The Captains weren't able to get much going, but
Samantha Dorn was able to hit three kills as the Captains were working back into the set. But the Violets scored three of the last four points and took the first set.
Second Set
Dorn and
Macy Burk each had three kills in the second set, but the Captains fell behind with NYU scoring three points in a row three times. CNU scored three points in a row to cut the NYU lead to six, but NYU held off a comeback attempt the won the second set.
Third Set
NYU started the third set with a 5-1 lead, but the Captains were able to strike back with three straight points and kills from
Kyla McIntyre and
Alyssa Dozier to cut the NYU lead to one. The Violets claimed the next five points to reclaim their larger lead, but the Captains kept it close with back-to-back aces from
Madi Schmidt helped CNU take four straight points. The teams traded runs for much of the third set, NYU held off a final push from the Captains to win the match in three sets.
Salisbury 3, Christopher Newport 0 | (25-14, 25-22, 25-16)
First Set
Kyla McIntyre led the Captains with three kills as they were able to keep pace with Salisbury for most of the first set. But a seven-point run for the Sea Gulls widened their lead from five to 11 and helped Salisbury capture the first set. Â
Second Set
The Captains jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second set with an ace from
Julia Gleason and a kill from McIntyre. Salisbury responded later in the set in scoring five straight points to tie the score at 11.
Samantha Dorn and
Macy Burk led the team with three kills each in the second set, and they hit kills back-to-back to break an 18-18 tie and give CNU a two-point lead. But the Sea Gulls put together five points again to reach set point and later clinch the second set.
Third Set
The Captains saw a missed SU serve and a service ace for Schmidt bring them within one of the Sea Gulls, but Salisbury scored six in a row to take a lead they wouldn't release. The Captains couldn't spark a rally to come back in the third set and Salisbury wrapped up the third set.

- Samantha Dorn led the Captains in kills in both matches on Saturday. She hit nine kills against NYU and seven against Salisbury.
- Noelle Starr also led the teams in digs in both matches with 14 in the NYU match and 11 against Salisbury.
Next Up
Christopher Newport will wrap up their regular season next weekend with a trip to Mary Washington. They'll play the Eagles on Friday before facing Centre and Susquehanna on Saturday.
