Carroll Reaches 1,000 Digs in Thursday Win

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sammy Carroll passed the 1,000 dig mark on Thursday night as the Christopher Newport Captains took down William Peace in three sets.

First Set (Captains 25-21)

Kyla McIntyre helped CNU get off to a hot start with two kills to put the Captains ahead 3-2. Samantha Dorn's five kills in the opening set helped the Captains keep pace with William Peace. Her fifth kill tied the score at 19 and sparked a 4-0 run to put CNU ahead late in the set. McIntyre delivered back-to-back kills to win the first set for CNU.

Second Set (Captains 25-13)

The Captains captured 15 of 18 points in the second set as they turned a 9-6 lead into a 23-9 advantage. It was a team effort as kills came from Sammy Carroll, Kyla McIntyre, Alli Pratt, Alyssa Dozier, and Samantha Dorn while Phoebe Adams and Madi Schimit added service aces. Pratt came through with the final kill to win the second set.

Third Set (Captains 25-8)

Christopher Newport held William Peace to three kills and a negative hitting percentage in each of the final two sets. Meanwhile, the Captains hit .500 in the third set in an emphatic 17 point third set victory. CNU claimed six straight points to start the set and fittingly saw Sammy Carroll's service ace close out a three-set win for the Captains.
