NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport dropped Friday night's match against Mary Washington at the Freeman Center.
Alyssa Dozier led the way a double-double effort of 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the team in both categories.
First Set (Mary Washington 25-23)
The two sides were neck and neck in the first set going point-for-point in many cases.
Kyla McIntyre hit four four kills early to keep the Captains at pace with Mary Washington.
Alyssa Dozier added two of her three kills in the first set as part of a 3-0 run that brought CNU even at 23-23. But Mary Washington managed to take the next two points and with that, the first set.
Second Set (Captains 25-23)
Seven straight points helped CNU out to a seven-point lead early in the second set.
Alyssa Dozier and
Samantha Dorn each posted four kills in the second set and played an important role in holding on to the lead. But late in the set, the Eagles snagged a two point lead.
Simara Alexander hit a kill to bring CNU within one, two errors helped the Captains back into the lead, and
Sammy Carroll struck for a kill to close out the second set and even the score.
Third Set (Mary Washgtion 25-20)
Back-to-back kills from
Alyssa Dozier brought CNU even with Mary Washigton at 14. But from there, the Eagles took control of the third set. Mary Washington scored four of the next five points on their way to capturing the third set and taking a 2-1 advantage.
Fourth Set (Captains 25-20)
Alyssa Dozier added two more blocks in the fourth set and reached double-digit blocks, but the Eagles attack managed to break through. Six straight points for Mary Washington put them up by seven. Back-to-back blocks from Dozier helped the Captains stop their run, but the Eagles managed to close out the fourth set and the match.

- Alyssa Dozier reached a career high of 10 blocks on Friday. It's the first time since 2019 a Captain has reached double-digit blocks.
- Dozier also posted a double-double with 15 kills and 10 blocks. Sammy Carroll also had a double-double with 31 assists and 15 digs.
