NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport won their 12th straight match on Friday night with a three-set win over St. Lawrence at the Freeman Center.
First Set (Captains 25-15)
Julia Gleason served three straight aces to start the match off on the right foot.
Angie Barrera added the Captains' fourth ace of the set shortly after. Kills from
Samantha Dorn,
Simara Alexander, and
Macy Burk helped CNU close down the first set, taking four of the final six points.
Second Set (Captains 25-8)
The Captains totaled six aces in the second set: two from
Noelle Starr, two from
Madi Schmidt, and one each from
Angie Barrera and
Megan James. The Captains hit .346 in the second set and held the Saints to a .000 percentage. CNU scored the final seven points of the set to cruise to a second straight set win.
Third Set (Captains 25-20)
Sammy Carroll started out the third set with back-to-back service aces, part of CNU's five aces in the third set. James added two more and Barrera served another later in the set. James' aces put CNU up 22-15, but St. Lawrence made a comeback bid. A kill from
Alli Pratt helped shut down the comeback bit, and an errant attack closed out the three-set win for CNU.

- The Captains totaled 15 service aces, the second-most this season and the most in a three-set match this season.
- Angie Barrera, Megan James, and Julia Gleason led the team with three aces each. It's a new career high for Barrera and tied a season-best for Gleason.

Christopher Newport hosts two Coast-to-Coast conference teams on Saturday. They'll host Salisbury at noon before hosting Warren Wilson at 4:00 p.m. for senior day.
