YORK, Pa. - Two teams riding five-game winning streaks will battle Saturday afternoon at Wolf Gymnasium. Christopher Newport University, 14-2 and ranked seventh in the nation, takes on the Spartans of York College (7-6). Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The Captains opened 2023 by coming from behind to post a 79-73 triumph on Monday over Brandeis University at the Freeman Center. Junior Jahn Hines led the way with 25 points, followed by senior Rodney Graves with 23. CNU trailed by four at the half, 35-31, and used a 14-0 run in the second half to surge ahead. The Judges would later cut the lead to three, but the Captains were able to hold them off thanks to excellent free throw shooting down the stretch.

York is 7-6 heading into Saturday's matinee. The Spartans won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night, beating Albright in Reading, 81-71. York and CNU are former league-mates in the Capital Athletic Conference, and Saturday's game will be the 20th meeting of the programs. The Captains have a 13-6 edge in the series, but the Spartans have won the last two games, including a 79-77 victory in the CAC title game at the Freeman Center on February 29, 2020. Christopher Newport is 4-4 all-time in games in York, and the Spartans have taken the last three at Wolf Gymnasium.
