TEMPE, Ariz. -- Christopher Newport men's tennis will open the 2023 spring season ranked No. 37 in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Collegiate Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point. The Captains held their position in the preseason poll after finishing out the 2021-22 campaign ranked 37th as well.
Additionally, Christopher Newport is ranked ninth in the Atlantic South Region rankings, also released on Tuesday. This is the eighth consecutive season that Christopher Newport has been ranked as a top-40 program, all coming under Director of Tennis
Eric Christiansen.
This season, senior
Alec Strause returns after finishing his junior campaign ranked nationally in doubles with partner
Ryan Macy. He will open the spring slate ranked No. 20 in the ITA Singles regional rankings and comes into the year with 25 career victories. He also has compiled 29 doubles wins with five different teammates over the course of his career.
Also returning to the fold is first team All-Conference selection Eddy Porsmyr Hansen after a successful sophomore season a year ago. Porsmyr Hansen ranked second on the team in total singles wins with 12 with a winning record at No. 3.
The spring season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 4 against Virginia Wesleyan University. Match time in Newport News is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
