Christopher Newport made quick work of Meredith on Tuesday night at the Freeman Center, downing the Avenging Angels in three sets.
First Set (Captains 25-18)
Two service aces from
Megan James were part of a 4-0 run for the Captains that helped separate them from Meredith in the first set. James would later contribute three straight kills to bring up set point, with
Macy Burk delivering the final blow to claim the first set for CNU
Second Set (Captains 25-22)
The Captains trailed most of the second set, but broke through late with two straight points from
Maddie Carter off a kill and an ace, and then two more from freshmen
Alyssa Dozier and
Megan James. The four point swing gave CNU a 22-19 advantage, and kills from Dozier and Burk along with an ace from
Rebecca Frey helped CNU take the second set and a 2-0 lead.Â
Third Set (Captains 25-17)
Trailing early in the third set, 4-3, CNU took nine of the next ten points to open up a commanding lead. They kept the momentum from this run through the set, taking five of the last six points, with
Sammy Carroll and Kyla McIntrye getting credit for the final kills in CNU's 3-0 sweep.
