NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball embarks on their further road trip of the season this weekend. A trip to Cincinnati is on tap for the Captains for the Mt. St. Joseph Tourney.
Match Details
The Captains start the weekend at 6:00pm against the hosting Mt. St. Joseph. On Saturday, they'll face Ohio Northern at 11:00am and Transylvania at 1:00pm. All matches will be streamed live on the Youtube.Â

Christopher Newport went 1-2 on the weekend at the Susquehanna Invitational with a notable win over #14 Johns Hopkins. Senior
Mackenzie Wright hit over .400 through the weekend's matches, totaling double-digit kills in two of the three matches. Wright finished a five match week with 16 blocks, including five in CNU's win over Johns Hopkins. Fellow Senior
Rebecca Frey had double-digit digs in four of five matches last week and contributed four service aces to CNU's win over Johns Hopkins.

The Captains have averaged nearly two blocks per set so far this season which puts them in the national top 50. It's been a team effort too, with
Macy Burk has leading CNU with 45 blocks while
Mackenzie Wright is a close second with 38. Freshman

Series History
The Captains have never faced Mt. St. Joseph or Transylvania. CNU is 1-0 all-time against Ohio Northern with that win coming in 2011 in a neutral clash in St. Louis.
Scouting the Lions
Mt. St. Joseph is 8-3 so far this season with a 3-1 record at home. Their four home matches were also part of a tournament similar to the upcoming weekend. The Lions opened the season with a loss to Wittenberg before winning the final three matches of their first home tournament. Junior Emiliy Abshire leads the Lions in scoring with 135 points.
Scouting the Polar Bears
Ohio Northern comes into the weekend on a six match winning streak and boasts a 9-2 record. They're a perfect 4-0 in neutral site games, with their only two losses coming in true road games. A balanced attack ranks fourth nationally in kills per set and fifth in hitting percentage at .269.
Scouting the Pioneers
Transylvania is 9-5 this season after picking up three wins last weekend without surrendering a set. They were the HCAC champions in 2021 and will begin their title defense next week when they open conference play. Grace Ward has been one of the nation's top setters this season, averaging the third most assists per set (10.51).Â
