Men's Basketball Completes Coaching Staff for 2022-2023 as Dyson and Brown Return to CNU Sideline

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University Men's Basketball Head Coach John Krikorian has announced two additions to his coaching staff for the 2022-2023 campaign. Both are familiar faces, as Jarren Dyson and Jeremy Brown return to join longtime assistant Roland Ross on the sideline. Dyson will serve as Assistant Head Coach and Brown has been named Director of Analytics.

"I have known Coach Dyson for more than a decade, and I couldn't be more excited for his return to the CNU sidelines, this time as Assistant Head Coach," Krikorian said. "JD is an established recruiter and tactician, but more importantly he is a first-class human being who will serve as a leader and role model for our student-athletes. His experience at Lafayette working under one of my mentors, Fran O'Hanlon, has prepared him extremely well to take on this new role at CNU."

JARREN DYSON spent four years as an assistant at CNU before leaving to join the staff at Lafayette College, where he spent the last five seasons. Dyson served as the program's recruiting coordinator, and was involved in player development with perimeter players and with student-athlete academics, while also managing administrative duties and the day-to-day operations of the program. He also served as program director for Lafayette's Elite Camp for two seasons.

During his initial run with the Captains, Dyson helped lead the team to back-to-back conference championships and a run to the program's first-ever Final Four appearance in 2016. The Captains recorded a 99-19 record and three conference championships during his first tenure on Krikorian's staff. Dyson was responsible for the development of seven All-Conference performers, two Conference Players of the Year, and two First-Team All-Americans.

Prior to his time with the Captains, Dyson was an assistant at Tabb High School for two years, leading the Tigers to the state quarterfinals both years. As a student-athlete at Emory & Henry, Dyson started all four years, serving as a team captain for his final two seasons. He remains fourth all-time in assists at his alma mater and was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player following the 2009-10 season. Dyson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 2010, majoring in Sport Management with a minor in Business Management at Emory & Henry.

JEREMY BROWN worked previously with the Christopher Newport program from 2017-2019, and also left for Lafayette College, where he served as Director of Basketball Operations for the Leopards last season.

"Jeremy Brown is one of the most intelligent, analytical basketball minds I know," Krikorian continued. "Our players and staff are going to benefit immensely with his return to our program as Director of Analytics. He handles so many important behind the scenes tasks for us and challenges me as a coach to think outside the box."

Brown worked on Krikorian's staff during two successful seasons, as the Captains reached the NCAA Division III Tournament twice and claimed the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2019. A 2014 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Brown served as a graduate assistant in 2014-15 for Shenandoah University, before working as an assistant coach with the Hornets in 2016-17 prior to first joining the CNU staff.

In addition to Ross, Dyson and Brown, the men's basketball staff will again also include Dione James, who will return as an assistant to complete the staff.

Christopher Newport is coming off a 27-3 record last season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. The Captains are slated to open the 2022-2023 season on Wednesday, November 9th, at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
