Complete Results: CNU Fall Invite  ||  Marlins Fall Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Wrapping up their first two tournament appearances of the season, the Christopher Newport men's tennis team saw action against North Carolina Wesleyan College and Norfolk State University as part of the CNU Fall Invite and Marlin Fall Invite on Sunday. Rookie Aden Bashir wrapped up a perfect weekend with his third singles victory while adding a perfect 4-0 mark in doubles play over three days of action.

Over the course of the three day events, Bashir was joined by Dawson Driscoll (3-0), Tyler Hyun (3-0), and Eddy Porsmyr Hansen (2-0) boasting multiple singles wins without a loss this weekend. Peter Karanski also added a win in his only showing in singles this weekend.

In doubles play, Bashir led the way at 4-0 while Ashton Legum and Ryan Monroe each posted 3-0 performances in pairs play. Karanski was 2-0 in doubles while Driscoll, Alex Seretis, and and Ahun Vodela each added two wins apiece with just one loss.

On Sunday, it was Porsmyr Hansen with a dominant win over the Battling Bishops top man, Albert Sitwell, as the Captains' veteran secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Hyun capped his perfect singles weekend with a battle of a win against Valentin Morelli on the fourth line, winning by a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. And rookie Jake Dolphin secured a first-set tiebreaker win on route to a straight set win over Renato Barros 7-6 (5), 6-4.

In doubles play, Legum and Seretis paired for an 8-4 win against Andy Fanzaga and Sitwell, but the match of the day came at two doubles where Monroe and Vodela took on Bernardo Messineo and Morelli. The marathon in tandem action would not be settled until the 22nd point of the tiebreaker when the Captains' duo finally captured an 8-7 (12-10) win.

On Virginia Wesleyan's campus, the Captains took on Division I Norfolk State for a pair of doubles matches and four in singles play. Driscoll and Bashir dominated in doubles, winning 8-1 over Ibrahim Abbas and Roosevelt Brown, and the duo carried that momentum into success during individual play also. Driscoll won over Abbas (6-3, 6-4) and Bashir shut out Brown (6-0, 6-0).

The Captains will next take on the talented field at the ITA Southeast Regional from September 30-October 2. Results and recaps will be available only at CNUsports.com following each round.
