Captains Sweep Pacers in Midweek Action

Christopher Newport welcomed undefeated William Peace to the Freeman Center on Tuesday night and handed the Pacers their first loss of the season.

First Set (Captains 25-18)

The Captains fought for six points in a row to get ahead 11-7 in the first set. Later, with a 20-18 lead, Noelle Starr took serve and added two aces as part of a 5-0 run that closed out the first set for CNU.

Second Set (Captains 25-22)

CNU never trailed in the second set, but also never led by more than four. The Captains took their largest lead of the second set after an Alyssa Dozier kill was followed by a block from Mackenzie Wright and Megan James. That put CNU up 23-19, and after a kill from Wright brought up set point, Sammy Carroll finished off the second set with a kill to give Christopher Newport a 2-0 lead.

Third Set (Captains 25-16)

Five different Captains registered a kill in the first 11 points of the third set as CNU's balanced attack began to overwhelm the Pacers. Christopher Newport hit a match-best .350 in the third set while William Peace hit a match-low .086. Kills from Mackenzie Wright, Macy Burk, and Maddie Carter finished off the set and match for CNU.

News & Notes

  • The Captains' 54 kills is tied for their second highest total of the season and is the most in a three-set match in 2022.
  • CNU only made 12 attacking errors, their second-lowest total this season.
  • Macy Burk led the Captains in kills with 13; it's the first time she's led CNU in kills this season.
