NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Earning Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, Christopher Newport senior center back Kyle Stenzel has helped lead the Captains to a 3-1-0 start this season.

While the back line, with Stenzel's help, has allowed just two goals so far this year, he contributed on the offensive end against Pfeiffer with the game-winning goal and an assist later in the contest. His first goal as a Captain came in the 21st minute of action versus the Falcons as he soared through the air and hammered home a header for the score after a long throw-in from Matt Liss. 

Later in the game, Stenzel was in the middle of a terrific combination play started on the outside by Elton Quintanilla. In the middle of a torrential downpour, Quintanilla slipped into the corner, drawing a defender before playing a ball into Stenzel. The Captains' defender had two in front of him in the box so he spun and played a bouncer across the crowded area to a wide open Barry Jones on the outside for the score. 

The three-point effort was the first scoring for the Staunton, Va. native and moved him up to second on the scoring chart for the season. While the offensive insurance was certainly celebrated, Stenzel and the defense continue to be a thorn in opposing teams offensive attacks. So far this season, the Captains have allowed just eight total shots on-goal in four games for an average of 2.0 per contest. 

Stenzel and the rest of the back line boast a 0.50 goals-against average with only 4.5 total attempts surrendered by opponents from the field in the first four games. 

Christopher Newport will look to continue it's strong start this weekend as they play host to Covenant (Ga.) on Friday night and UT Dallas on Sunday.
