NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University freshman running back Gunner White was named the Offensive Rookie of the Week Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). White, a product of Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, rushed for 71 yards on 15 carries for the Captains in Saturday's 24-20 loss to Averett University at Kelchner Field at TowneBank Stadium.

White scored his first career touchdown on a 24-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter of the home opener for CNU. He has now rushed for 127 yards on 27 carries (4.7 yards per carry) through he first two games of the season. It's the first conference award this year for Paul Crowley's squad.

The Captains (1-1) will host the Apprentice School (2-0) this Saturday night. Kickoff time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Kelchner Field at TowneBank Stadium. It will be the second of four straight home games for Christopher Newport.
