No. 40 CNU Men's Tennis Faces No. 34 UC Santa Cruz in Conference Tournament Semifinals Saturday at 4:00 pm

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team held it's position at No. 40 in the most recent ITA National Rankings and will take on No. 34 UC Santa Cruz Saturday in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals at 4:00 p.m.

The Captains are also ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South region while the Banana Slugs are also No. 9 regionally, in the West. Heading into the conference tournament, CNU will serve as the #3 seed facing #2 UC Santa Cruz and the winning team will advance to play in the championship against the winner of the #1 Mary Washington/TBD semifinal also played at 4:00 pm.

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8. All of the postseason tournament matches will be played at Mary Washington, with weather forcing the action indoors at the University Tennis Center.

Christopher Newport is the 3-seed in the tournament for the third consecutive season and is looking to advance to the team's sixth conference championship bout since 2015.

This season, senior Ryan Macy has led the way for the Captains and is currently regionally-ranked in both singles and doubles. He is pegged No. 12 in singles and pairs with Alec Strause to rank No. 6 in tandem play. UC Santa Cruz features one regionally-ranked player in No. 13 in the West Andre Mardirossian.

Macy was a second team All-Conference pick this season and has not yet lost at No. 2 singles this year. He moved up to No. 1 and picked up four wins over the opponent's top player, including one of the top wins in program history when he defeated national No. 3 Jhonny Acosta (NCWC).

Also earning All-League honors were Alec Strause and Eddy Porsmyr Hansen as first team selections. Strause leads the team in wins with 15 including a 9-4 record at No. 2 while Porsmyr Hansen has added a 9-7 record at No. 3 this season.
