NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will kick off the postseason on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when the Captains host Mary Washington in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals at Jennings Family Stadium.

Christopher Newport enters the playoffs as the league's No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season with a 9-8 record, including a 1-1 mark in conference action. Meanwhile, Mary Washington boasts an identical 9-8 record while going 0-2 against league foes.

The Captains earned the No. 2 seed after defeating the Eagles during their regular season battle on April 26. In that showdown, the two teams were tied three times in the fourth quarter, including a 10-10 deadlock at the end of regulation. However, after Emma Jackson controlled the opening draw in overtime, Zoe Dyer converted a free-position goal in the 62nd minute to seal the victory.

During the game, Syd Guidi led Christopher Newport with four goals, while Dyer finished with a hat-trick. Kendall Krause also added a pair of strikes, and Jackson wrapped up the contest with nine draw controls and two takeaways. Lizzie Burgoyne also starred on the back end while making 10 saves. The senior goalie was eventually named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for that performance.

On the other side of the field, Kayla Sarazin paced Mary Washington with six points, including four goals. Rachel Oestrike also added three points, and Reilly Miller came through with nine saves and three ground balls.

The regular season victory marked Christopher Newport's third straight win against the Eagles dating back to last season. However, Mary Washington holds a 17-4 edge in the all-time series.

Entering the playoffs, the Captains rank 21st in the NCAA in shooting percentage after capitalizing on 50.5 percent of their attempts during the regular season. Meanwhile, the team also leads the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference in takeaways per game (9.29) and draw controls per contest (13.71).

On an individual level, Kelsey Winters is ninth in the country with nine assists, while Madi Rozgonyi is first in the league with 31 caused turnovers and second with 32 ground balls. Jackson is also tops in the conference in ground balls (34) and draw controls (91) while ranking second in caused turnovers (21).

Mary Washington has been led by stellar play in the crease. Miller ranks first in the conference and 22nd nationally with a .514 save percentage. Meanwhile, Katie Blair has anchored the attack with a league-high 55 goals, while Sarazin slots second in the conference with 25 assists and 77 draw controls.

The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which will be hosted by No. 2 Salisbury on Saturday at 1 p.m.
