NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The third-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will continue the national playoffs at home this weekend when the Captains host No. 6 York (Pa.) in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Jennings Family Stadium on Saturday at noon.

In addition to Christopher Newport's showdown with the Spartans, the Captains will also host a Quarterfinal battle between No. 8 Union and No. 16 Gettysburg on Saturday at 3 p.m. The winners will advance for a semifinal contest on Sunday.

Tickets will be $10 for each day of the tournament. Christopher Newport students will be admitted free of charge with a valid ID. Meanwhile, for those fans unable to attend the weekend, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport advanced to the Quarterfinals after knocking off Sewanee and No. 14 Wesleyan by a combined score of 50-13 last weekend. In the second round, the Captains topped Sewanee, 29-5, which matched the largest margin of victory in program history. On Saturday, the team upended Wesleyan, 21-8, which marked the team's seventh win over a nationally-ranked opponent in 2022.

York (Pa.) reached the Quarterfinals after defeating Southern Virginia, 18-8, in the opening action of the national playoffs before taking down No. 19 Denison, 16-4, on Friday evening. The Spartans enter the week with a 19-2 record while boasting the nation's fourth-ranked scoring defense, which is surrendering just 7.11 goals per game. Meanwhile, the team also slots ninth nationally in faceoff percentage (.678).

Union comes into the weekend after beating John Carroll, 14-7, in the second round of the tournament before toppling Western New England, 21-11, on Saturday. The eighth-ranked Dutchmen currently stand at 16-2 on the year despite facing one of the nation's toughest schedules. So far this season, the team has already defeated St. John Fisher and Tufts, who are tied for fourth in the USILA National Coaches Poll, while falling 14-13 to No. 2 RIT.

Gettysburg arrives in Newport News after defeating Roanoke, 14-6, before handing No. 7 Dickinson its first loss of the season with a 17-7 triumph in the third round of the tournament. The 16th-ranked Bullets currently sport a 14-7 record. Incredibly, of their seven setbacks, five have come against top-10 foes, including No. 1 Salisbury and No. 3 Christopher Newport, while they have regular season wins against No. 17 Stevenson and No. 20 Franklin & Marshall.

The team that advances through this weekend will contend for the national championship, which will be held in East Hartford, Connecticut on May 29.
