NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday at 5 p.m. when the Captains host Meredith in a non-conference battle at Jennings Family Stadium.
On a two-game tear, Christopher Newport enters Wednesday with an 8-7 record, including a 5-3 mark at home. Meanwhile, Meredith is 12-4 overall and 6-3 on the road.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a thrilling 11-10 overtime victory against Mary Washington in the league opener on Saturday. During the contest,
Zoe Dyer notched a hat-trick, including the clinching strike in the 62nd minute of action.
Syd Guidi also landed four goals for the Captains, while
Emma Jackson helped control possession with nine draws, including a key win to open overtime.
On the defensive side,
Lizzie Burgoyne chipped in with 10 saves and a pair of takeaways. For that performance, the senior star was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Christopher Newport continues to feature a potent attack that ranks first in the conference and 20th in the nation in shooting percentage (.503). That currently stands as the program's highest single-season rate since the 2016 squad posted a .516 clip.
On an individual level, six Captains have converted more than 50 percent of their shots into goals this year. Among the high-volume scorers,
Sloane McDonald has capitalized on 64 percent of her shots while compiling 18 total strikes. Dyer and
Kendall Krause also have over 30 goals apiece while boasting shooting percentages above .500
Equally impactful on the offensive side,
Kelsey Winters has been a focal point on the attack while ranking fourth in the NCAA with 60 assists. Her 85 total points also place her ninth in the nation and 10th on the program's all-time single-season list. Additionally, she stands just three points shy of becoming the 10th player in school history to reach 200 career points.
Meredith locked up the USA South regular season championship on Saturday after knocking off Greensboro, 20-1. Against the Pride, Olivia Verlinden, Lauryn Turner, and Ava Spradley all produced hat-tricks, while 12 different players registered at least one goal. Along with her three tallies, Spradley also finished with seven draw controls and three caused turnovers during a well-rounded performance.
Overall this season, the Avenging Angels rank sixth in the NCAA in shooting percentage (.541) and 16th in scoring offense (16.88 goals per game). The lethal attack has been led by Maya Flake, who ranks sixth in the country with 49 assists. Additionally, eight players have scored at least 20 goals, including Kylie Phillips, who boasts a team-high 45 tallies. Meanwhile, between the pipes, Madeline Horrell has compiled a .410 save percentage and 7.38 goals-against-average while making 10 starts.
In four previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 3-1 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains picked up a 15-8 victory in Raleigh. Dyer and Krause both chipped in with hat-tricks, while Jackson added two takeaways and five draw controls.
Following the midweek showdown, Christopher Newport will return to action on April 30 when the Captains wrap up the regular season with a noon test at No. 3 Salisbury.
