NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will continue its homestand on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Captains square off against Haverford in a non-conference test at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the game, Christopher Newport currently sits at 3-0 on the season, including 2-0 at home. On the other side, Haverford is 2-0 with a 1-0 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport continued its winning ways last Saturday when the squad toppled Kean, 20-6. Against the Cougars, Kelsey Winters registered her third straight double-digit point effort after collecting four goals and six assists. Her six helpers equaled the eighth-highest total by a Captain. Fittingly, for her work, she garnered her third consecutive Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.

Along with Winters, Kendall Krause erupted for a career-high seven points against Kean, while Syd Guidi added four goals. Blake Hopkins also contributed her first collegiate hat-trick. Meanwhile, on the other side of the field, Izzy Shefrin notched a career-high six saves, including two stops on eight-meter attempts.

The Captains have remained one of the most lethal offensive squads in the NCAA this season. Entering Wednesday, the team currently ranks first in the country in free-position percentage (.889) and third in shooting percentage (.624). Overall, Christopher Newport is averaging 19.33 goals-per-game, which slots the squad 11th on the national charts.

On an individual level, Winters is first in the NCAA in points per game (11.67). Meanwhile, Emma Jackson has helped the Captains excel on the draw. The sophomore is averaging 7.67 draws per game, which places her 30th among all players in the country.

Haverford enters Wednesday coming off of a 15-12 triumph against Scranton on March 5. Against the Royals, the Fords showcased a well-balanced attack as Callie Crawford and Roma Hladky both posted four goals, while Katharine Ference added a hat-trick. Sam Silverman also contributed seven points, including five assists, while Sarah Cahn chipped in with 10 saves.

So far this season, Silverman leads the squad with nine points, while Hladky has deposited seven strikes. Defensively, Kate Severtson has a team-high six takeaways, and Cahn boasts a .389 save percentage and 11.00 goals-against-average. Freshman Tiffany Mikulis also has five caused turnovers, six draw controls, and four goals.

Christopher Newport and Haverford have previously met three times with the Fords holding a 2-1 edge in the series. Haverford won the most recent showdown, 21-14, in 2019. During that contest, Zoe Dyer had three points for the Captains, including a pair of goals.

Following the midweek match-up, the Captains will wrap up their four-game homestand on Saturday when the squad welcomes Lebanon Valley to town for a noon test.
