Christopher Newport is coming off of a 15-11 setback against Roanoke on Saturday. Against the Maroons,
Kendall Krause erupted for a career-high six goals, while
Kelsey Winters handed out five assists. Meanwhile,
Syd Guidi came through with 10 draw controls, which equaled the ninth-highest total in program history.Â
So far this season, Winters ranks fourth in the NCAA in assists (43), ninth in points (61), and 17th in free-position percentage (.778). Meanwhile, on the conference-level, Krause leads the league with 19 ground balls, and
Emma Jackson sits first with 44 draw controls.
Madi Rozgonyi is also second among league competitors with 15 caused turnovers.
On the other side of the field, Lynchburg is on a five-game skid, although three of the setbacks have come against nationally-ranked competition. The Hornets have dropped decisions to No. 6 Franklin & Marshall, No. 16 York (Pa.), and No. 19 Denison so far this year.
On an individual level, Lynchburg has been led by Patricia Rogers, who ranks 25th in the NCAA in saves per game (11.57) and 33rd in save percentage (.523). The freshman goalie has registered four double-digit save efforts this year, including an 18-stop showcase against Roanoke on March 24. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, Nicki Santora leads the team with 20 points, including 17 goals.
In 17 previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds an 11-6 edge in the series. The Captains won last year's contest, 17-4, in Newport News.
Zoe Dyer contributed six goals during that battle, while Winters had seven points, including five assists.
Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday for a noon contest at Messiah.
