LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face a top-10 test on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains square off with No. 4 Washington & Lee at Alston Parker Watt Field.
Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 3-3 on the season, including 1-1 on the road. Meanwhile, Washington & Lee is 4-2 overall and 3-1 at home.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a hard-fought 7-6 setback at Shenandoah on Wednesday. Against the Hornets,
Syd Guidi and
Zoe Dyer came through with fourth-quarter goals to force overtime, but the hosts survived in the extra session to secure the victory.
During the game, Dyer and
Lindsay Connell both contributed two points, while
Kendall Krause,
Kelsey Winters, and
Alexis Kasuda also found the back of the cage. Meanwhile, on the defensive end,
Lizzie Burgoyne finished with 12 saves. Krause,
Madi Rozgonyi, and
Blake Hopkins all had two takeaways apiece as well.
So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks 15th in the nation in free-position percentage (.619) and 16th in assists-per-game (8.00). On an individual level, Winters is third in the NCAA with 31 total helpers and eighth with 45 points. She has also converted each of her five free-position attempts, while Guidi has three eight-meter darts of her own.
Washington & Lee comes into the contest on a two-game roll, including a 20-3 triumph over Ferrum in the squad's conference opener on Tuesday. Against the Panthers, four different Generals collected four points, including hat-tricks by Maggie Frankel, Caroline Foster, and Alex Petras. Meanwhile, the defense allowed only four on-target shots during the game, while Ginny Taylor and Shannon Timoney had a pair of takeaways.
On the season, Washington & Lee has been led by a stout defense, including Caroline Kranich. The sophomore goalie ranks 23rd in the NCAA with a 6.78 goals-against-average. Eugenie Rovegno has also been a key factor with eight caused turnovers, 13 ground balls, and 31 draw controls. On the other end, Hannah Bishop leads the team with 18 points, including 13 goals, while Allie Schwab has 12 strikes of her own.
In 14 previous meetings between the two programs, Washington & Lee holds a 13-1 edge in the series. The Generals won last year's meeting, 16-12, despite five goals by
Julia Iapicca.
Following Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will return home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. battle with Randolph-Macon.
