WINCHESTER, Va. -- After a four-game homestand, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time this month when the Captains travel to Shenandoah for a non-conference test beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Shentel Stadium.
Entering the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport is currently 3-2 on the season, including 1-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Shenandoah is also 3-2 overall with a 2-2 mark at home.

Through five games this season, Christopher Newport ranks among the national leaders in a variety of statistical categories. The Captains are averaging 9.20 assists per game, which stands ninth in the NCAA. Meanwhile, the squad also sits 11th in shooting percentage (.527) and 19th in free-position percentage (.647).
Christopher Newport has also been effective at gaining and keeping possession. The team is averaging 14.80 draw controls per contest, which ranks first in the league. Additionally, the Captains are committing only 10.60 turnovers per game, which places them 10th in the entire country.
On an individual level,
Kelsey Winters continues to rank first in the NCAA in assists per game (6.20), while she also slots seventh in points per contest (8.80). Overall, she has served as the focal point on a well-balanced attack that has seen eight different players register at least one hat-trick this year, including five-goal eruptions by
Sloane McDonald,
Zoe Dyer, and
Kendall Krause.
Shenandoah enters Wednesday coming off of an 11-9 win at Meredith on Saturday. Emma Stiffler led the Hornets with five points, including four goals. Meanwhile, Reilly Cisar played a role in each of the team's three tallies in the fourth quarter as the squad flipped a 9-8 deficit into an 11-9 victory.
Overall this season, Stiffler ranks 28th in the NCAA in assists per game (2.67) and 40th in points per contest (6.00). She is also tied with Cisar for the team-lead with 10 total goals. Additionally, Madison Re has 17 draw controls this year, while Ashley MacFarlane has compiled a .387 save percentage and 13.14 goals-against-average.
In 23 previous match-ups between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 20-3 lead in the series. The Captains won last year's showdown, 19-14, at Jennings Family Stadium. Winters posted five goals during the game, while Dyer and Krause had four apiece. Meanwhile, Stiffler and Cisar had four each for the Hornets.
Following Wednesday's contest, Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the team heads to Lexington for a 1 p.m. test against No. 4 Washington & Lee.
