NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Capping off a four-game homestand, the 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will welcome Lebanon Valley to town for an 11 a.m. showdown on Saturday at Jennings Family Stadium.
Entering the weekend, the Captains currently sit at 3-1 on the season, including 2-1 at home. Meanwhile, Lebanon Valley is 1-4 overall and 0-2 on the road.

Christopher Newport is coming off its first setback of the season after falling to Haverford, 13-9, on Wednesday. Against the Fords,
Kelsey Winters recorded six points, including four assists.
Kendall Krause and
Syd Guidi also added a pair of strikes, while
Sloane McDonald came through with her eighth goal of the year.
On the defensive side,
Izzy Shefrin contributed a career-high 10 saves, while Krause,
Joely Stevens, and
Maddie Rusinko each registered a pair of takeaways.
Overall this season, the Captains have proven to be one of the most efficient offensive attacks in the country. Christopher Newport currently ranks seventh in the NCAA in free-position percentage (.750) and ninth in shooting percentage (.554). On an individual level, Winters has converted all three of her eight-meter attempts this year, while
Blake Hopkins boasts a team-best .714 shooting percentage after converting five of her seven shots into goals.
Along with her work on free-position attempts, Winters also slots first in the country in assists (29). Her 10.25 points-per-game average also places her on top of the national charts.
Lebanon Valley enters the weekend on a four-game skid with the last two setbacks coming in tough road battles against No. 10 TCNJ and Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington. The Dutchmen have been led this season by Julia Abendschoen, who ranks third in the NCAA with 62 total saves. The junior standout has at least 10 stops in each of her five appearances this year, including 15 against Scranton on February 26.
On the offensive end, Veronica Venezia leads Lebanon Valley with 22 total points and ranks 21st in the NCAA with 11 assists. Additionally, Brittany Hathaway has a team-high 14 goals and 29 draw controls. Her finest performance of the year came in the opener against Susquehanna when she registered seven goals and was honored as the MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week.
Saturday's showdown will mark only the second time that Christopher Newport and Lebanon Valley have squared off in lacrosse. The Captains won the only other meeting after collecting a 15-5 win in Newport News on March 5, 2016.
Following this weekend's contest, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 16 when the squad heads to Winchester for a 4 p.m. match-up at Shenandoah.
