Fourth-Ranked Captains Host Mary Washington Wednesday Night at 7:00 PM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Men's basketball returns to the Freeman Center Wednesday night, as the Captains of Christopher Newport University entertain the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. 

The Captains are 19-2 and riding a 16-game winning streak heading into Wednesday night's clash. John Krikorian's squad, ranked fourth in the country for the second straight week, hasn't lost since a November 21st defeat at Lynchburg and the Captains are 11-0 at home this season. Christopher Newport won its 16th straight last Wednesday night, a 62-55 victory at Salisbury. 

The Eagles enter play on Wednesday with a 15-5 mark, and are coming off a loss at Salisbury on Friday that snapped a three-game winning streak.The battle will be the 39th in the all-time series, and the Captains have gone 31-8 against the Eagles...including three straight victories and 12 of the last 13.

"February basketball is what it's all about," Krikorian said. "These are the games that mean the most, and prepare you for conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament. Every time we play Mary Washington, it's a hard-fought battle with plenty of drama. I'm looking forward to our fans being fired up at the Freeman Center, our pep band and cheerleaders and everything that adds to the excitement." 

Wednesday's game will be the first home action for the Captains since a January 17th victory over the College of New Jersey. The game will be the first of two home games this week, as CNU will host Salisbury on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Saturday will be Hall of Fame and Senior Day and the final home regular-season game of the year for the Captains.

Tickets for Wednesday's game will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tipoff. All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with Wednesday's pre-game show beginning at 6:40 p.m. The game will also be streamed live on CNUsports.com.
