NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 24th-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will kick off a four-game homestand on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains host Moravian at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport currently sits at 1-0 on the season. Meanwhile, Moravian is 0-1.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 20-2 victory against Virginia Wesleyan in the season opener last week. During that battle, Kelsey Winters matched the single-game program record with 12 points, while her nine assists fell one shy of the school standard. For her performance, she was honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Along with Winters' historic showcase, Zoe Dyer registered four goals, including the 100th of her career. Meanwhile, Alexis Kasuda also deposited a hat-trick, and Hope Hunter established new career-highs with six ground balls and three draw controls. Emma Jackson also controlled six draws against the Marlins, while Eleanor Collins added five.

Also making some history last week, Izzy Shefrin became just the third freshman goalie in program lore to start and win a season opener. The first-year standout joined former All-Region performer Emma Walsh (2016) and All-Conference star Hannah Wilkerson (2011) as the only Captains to accomplish that feat.

Moravian enters the weekend after dropping a hard-fought 18-17 decision to Muhlenberg on Wednesday. During the game, the Greyhounds held a lead entering the final minute of action, but the Mules scored twice in the last 58 seconds to squeak out a win. Megan Donnelly led Moravian with five points, including four goals, while Alex Cherenson, Lindsey Strohl, and Jackie Salvatore all had hat-tricks.

Strohl and Samantha Cherenson are both reigning All-Conference performers for the Greyhounds after they earned second-team All-Landmark plaudits last year. Overall, Moravian welcomed back 19 veterans from the 2021 squad, which produced a 6-5 record while capturing the program's first win in the league playoffs.

Saturday's match-up will mark just the second time Christopher Newport and Moravian have squared off in women's lacrosse. The Captains won the inaugural meeting, 17-13, last year. Dyer had four goals during that showdown, while Syd Guidi and Sloane McDonald netted two apiece.

Following this weekend's tilt, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 5 for a 1 p.m. bout against Kean.
