Natalie Terwilliger has been named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Terwilliger put together a career-best performance with 25 points and 16 rebounds against Salisbury University, helping the Captains secure an undefeated regular season with a 76-62 win against the Sea Gulls.
With the win, CNU extended it's nation-leading win streak to 39 games after wrapping up the 2021-22 regular season with a 22-0 record. The No. 1 team in the nation leaned on Terwilliger on her Senior Night as she hauled in a career-high 16 boards and notched her second career 25-point performance.
By halftime, Terwilliger had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as CNU opened up a nine-point lead at the break, 35-26. She then took over offensively, dominating the paint with 14 second-half points. After Salisbury drew within one, 47-46, late in the third quarter, Terwilliger scored eight of the next 12 points for CNU to put the Captains back up by 13, 59-46.
The Alexandria, Va. native was 10-14 from the field and missed only two shots inside the arc. She was also 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to run her season total to 92.9% (13-14). With the stellar effort, the senior forward is now shooting over 50% from the field while averaging 10.4 points per game this season.
She added a blocked shot and an assist in the game while helping CNU close out the perfect season.
Christopher Newport will return to action this Friday afternoon as the top seed in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by UC Santa Cruz. The Captains will face either #4-Mary Washington or #5-Finlandia after those two teams face off in the opening round on Thursday. CNU will tip off at Noon local, 3:00 p.m. Eastern time.
