NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team will look to continue it's outstanding start to the season when it returns home for a pair of matches this weekend. The Captains are 3-0 as they are set to welcome Hampden-Sydney College and Averett University in for bouts on Friday and Saturday, respectively. 

The Captains are coming off one of the most impressive wins in program history with a 5-4 victory against Southwestern University on a neutral court last weekend. CNU took down the Pirates, ranked No. 10 in the nation in the most recent ITA National Rankings, while playing at N.C. Wesleyan College on Sunday, February 13. 

This weekend, the Captains will host Hampden-Sydney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night before hosting the Cougars of Averett University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The all-time series between both programs is very close, with Hampden-Sydney owning an 11-10 advantage and CNU edging Averett, 19-17, in all the previous matchups. 

Christopher Newport is off to a tremendous start in doubles play, winning eight of the first nine matches in pairs play. Ryan Macy and Alec Strause are 3-0 at No. 1 doubles while leading the team in total doubles victories this year with six wins on the year. 

Macy is also 3-0 in singles action to lead the Captains from the No. 2 line. Newcomer Ahun Vodela is also 3-0 while playing No. 4 singles.
