NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University sophomore forward
Jahn Hines was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday. It's the third time this season Hines has received the accolade, and the seventh time the Captains have garnered the weekly honor this season.
Hines, a product of Norview High School in Norfolk, helped lead the fourth-ranked Captains to two home wins over Mary Washington and Salisbury last week. He posted a career-high 26 points against the Eagles on Wednesday in a 78-71 triumph, and added 16 points vs. the Sea Gulls on Saturday in an 80-76 victory, as the Captains extended their winning streak to 18 straight games. Hines is now averaging a team-high 15.2 points per game and is also pulling down 6.8 rebounds per contest.
In addition to the three honors for Hines, sophomore
Trey Barber has been named Player of the Week twice. Seniors
Jason Aigner and
Darian Peterson have also received the weekly award once.
Christopher Newport is 21-2, and the Captains will put their 18-game winning streak on the line Saturday at the University of Mary Washington. It will be the finl regular-season game for CNU. Tip off time is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Anderson Center in Fredericksburg.
