The Captains captured their 15th straight victory last Wednesday night, posting a 91-66 victory at William Peace University in Raleigh, N.C. Senior
Darian Peterson led the way with a 23-point, 11-rebound performance that saw him make 11 of his 12 shots attempted. Peterson was chosen the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts against the Pacers.
The Sea Gulls are 8-9 this season, but have won three of their last four. The meeting will be the 48th all-time in the series, with the Captains holding a 32-15 edge. Christopher Newport has won nine straight games over the Gulls, and 12 of the last 13, and CNU is 13-8 all-time vs. SU at the Maggs Center.
"Their record is deceiving," Krikorian said. "Three or four of their games they've lost in the final seconds, so they could easily have 11 or 12 wins right now. They're very talented offensively and can score a lot of points. We're definitely going to be challenged defensively."Â
Only three teams are ranked higher than the Captains in the country, and CNU has played two of them. The Captains defeated top-ranked Randolph-Macon, 77-76 in overtime, at the Freeman Center on November 28th. It is R-MC's only loss of the season, and the Yellow Jackets are now 17-1. Third-ranked Marietta defeated the Captains, 86-83, on November 12th in the opening game of a tournament at Roanoke College. Marietta is now 16-2. Wisconsin-Platteville is ranked second this week with a record of 18-1.Â
All Christopher Newport men's games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show Wednesday night beginning at 6:40 p.m. The broadcast can also be heard by clicking
