Gunner White Named Offensive Rookie of the Week in New Jersey Athletic Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University freshman running back Gunner White was honored Tuesday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference. White was named the Offensive Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after setting a new school mark for yards rushing by a freshman.

White, a product of Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, carried the ball 28 times for 174 yards and a score in CNU's 24-21 home victory over the College of New Jersey last Saturday. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry and scored on a 15-yard run that proved to be the decisive touchdown in the third quarter. White cut loose for a 41-yard scamper in the final minutes of the game, allowing the Captains to run out the clock and win for the sixth straight time.

The Captains are 7-2 overall and 5-0 atop the New Jersey Athletic Conference. CNU will play at Salisbury University on Saturday. There's been a change in game time for this Saturday's battle, with the kickoff now slated for 5:00 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium. The winner of the game will capture the New Jersey Athletic Conference crown and an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Salisbury is 8-1 overall and also 5-0 in conference play. The Sea Gulls have captured seven straight games after beating Kean University in New Jersey, 32-17. Ticket sales and Sea Gull Stadium gates will open an hour before kickoff, following the conclusion of the second round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament.
