United Soccer Coaches NCAA DIII Men's All-Region Teams

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Christopher Newport senior midfielder Kyle Stenzel was named a second team All-Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches in a release by the organization on Monday. The Captains' transfer played both defense and in the midfield this season, helping lead Christopher Newport to an impressive 13-4-2 overall campaign. 

In his first year with Christopher Newport, Stenzel started 13 and played in 14 games for the Captains and finished as the team's third-leading scorer. He logged three goals and three assists for nine points while also contributing to one of the nation's top defensive units. 

Stenzel started the year as a center back in the stingy Captains' defense, helping lead Christopher Newport to 11 shutouts and a 0.77 goals-against average on the season. CNU allowed one goal or fewer in all but one of the team's first 13 games, racing out to a 10-2-1 start. Before suffering a mid-season injury that held him out nearly a month, Stenzel and the Captains were 7-1-0 with five shutouts. 

On his return, the Staunton, Va. native moved into the midfield and quickly made an impact on the offensive end of the field. He ran off a streak of five games with at least one point in four of them, including two goals and two assists. He scored two game-winning goals for the Captains with winners against Pfeiffer and Hampden-Sydney. 

The Captains have featured at least one All-Region selection in all but one season since 1999. 

Christopher Newport closed the 2022 campaign in the NCAA Tournament second round with an overtime loss to Catholic University. The Captains finished 13-4-2 overall, reached the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship and tied the record for the second most shutouts in a single season with 11.
