Fourth-Ranked Captains Heading to Keystone State for Susquehanna Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University has won its first two games of the season, and the Captains are preparing for two more on the road. John Krikorian's squad, ranked fourth in the nation, travels to Selinsgrove, Pa., for the National Beef Susquehanna Tip-off Tournament. 

CNU will open the two-day tourney Friday with a 6:00 p.m. contest vs. Washington and Lee (2-0). Host school Susquehanna (1-1) will play Lebanon Valley (2-0) Friday night at 8:00 p.m. The third-place game will take place Saturday at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Championship at 3:00 p.m.

The Captains are coming off a 96-64 victory on Saturday over Lynchburg in their home opener at the Freeman Center. CNU won at tenth-ranked Johns Hopkins, 74-61, to open the season on November 9th.

Christopher Newport is led by junior All-American Jahn Hines, who was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week following the first week of action. Hines averaged 20 points per game, and opened with a career-high 29 on 11-of-19 shooting at Johns Hopkins. Junior Trey Barber has averaged 13.5 points and ten rebounds a game through the first two, and has also rejected ten shots. Junior Jamaal Madison led CNU on Saturday, with 17 points off the bench as five Captains reached double figures.. 

Friday's game with Washington and Lee will be the seventh meeting all-time, and the Captain hold a 4-2 lead in the series. The squads met last year at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and the Captains came away with a 103-91 victory. CNU met Susquehanna last year in the NCAA Tournament, winning by an 81-67 score in the first meeting ever of the programs. The Captains are also 1-0 all-time vs. Lebanon Valley, with the only game in the series played in the 1999/2000 season.
