EAST LANSING, Mich. --
After piecing together award-winning efforts during the South Regionals over the weekend, Madi Rawlings and Daniel Ferrante will represent the Christopher Newport cross country program at the NCAA National Championships, which will take place on Saturday at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.

Both Captains will be making their first trip to the national meet. Rawlings will take part in the 6k at 11 a.m., while Ferrante will head out for the 8k beginning at noon.

For those fans unable to attend the competition, live results and a video stream of the action will be available at NCAA.com.

With the two selections, the 2022 Captains are just the seventh team in school history to have a representative in both races at the NCAA meet. The 2015 squad was the last to accomplish that feat when former legend Lydia Cromwell took part in the women's 6k while the men's squad placed 32nd overall in the 8k.

Rawlings punched her ticket to the title competition after finishing 13th at the NCAA South Regionals on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion. The junior speedster eventually completed the 6k in 24:05.4, which earned her a spot on the All-Region squad.

Her performance at the regional meet continued an outstanding campaign for the third-year star. Earlier this season, Rawlings also garnered first-team All-Conference accolades after placing third at the league meet in 21:53.4. Adjusted for course length, that clocking marked the 10th-fastest in school history and established a new PR.

Meanwhile, Rawlings was also named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week on October 17 when she placed 22nd in the 6k at the Rowan Border Battle after crossing in 22:53.5.

Overall, the Suffolk, Virginia native is a two-time All-Conference and All-Region selection for her work in cross country. She is also the first underclassman to earn a spot in the 6k at the NCAA Championships since 2014.

Ferrante secured his place among the nation's top competitors after wrapping up the 8k in 26:12.9 at the NCAA South Regionals on Saturday. That effort earned him All-Region accolades and placed him 14th in the field, which marked the top finish by a Captain since 2017.

In addition to his work at the regional meet, Ferrante also garnered first-team All-League nods after coming in fifth at the conference championships last month. During that race, he clocked in at 24:32.2, which stands as the fifth-fastest 8k time in school history.

Incredibly, Ferrante's performance at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference meet marked the fourth straight competition in which he established a new 8k PR during the year. Making continuous strides throughout the season, the junior star finished in 25:40.7 at the Regional Preview, 25:34.5 at the Paul Short Run, and 25:11.7 at the Rowan Border Battle.

A two-time All-Conference and All-Region selection, the Sterling, Virginia native is the first underclassman to earn a spot in the 8k at the national meet since Cav McGaw advanced as a member of the 2017 squad.
