No. 12 CNU Men's Soccer Set to Host Rosemont College in NCAA First Round Saturday

NCAA Tournament Information - Newport News, Va. 1st and 2nd Rounds

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's soccer team will play at home on Saturday afternoon as the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Championship Tournament begins with opening round games. The Captains (12-3-2) will host Rosemont College (10-2-5) at 1:00 p.m. at Captains Field before also entertaining fans with a neutral site matchup between the University of Lynchburg (11-2-5) and Catholic University of America (12-1-7) at 3:30 p.m.

The gates will open at 12:00 p.m. with ticket prices set at $8 for adults and $5 for children and students. CNU students with a valid ID will be admitted free of charge.

For fans unable to attend in person, live stats and a live video webcast will be presented online courtesy of the CNU Department of Athletics. Links to both can be found on the men's soccer schedule or on the tournament website posted at the top of this page.

CNU will welcome NCAA Tournament action to Captains Field for the first time since 2014 when CNU defeated Stevens, 4-2, in the second round to advance to the sectionals weekend. Christopher Newport also hosted in 2019, but all three games were played at Jennings Family Stadium on the turf field. It will be the tenth time in program history the Captains have hosted postseason action.

Christopher Newport advanced to the postseason tournament via an at-large berth after falling to Mary Washington in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship in a penalty kick shootout. The Captains earned a 1-1 draw in their last game after picking up a 4-2 overtime win in the semifinals the day before.

It will be the first ever matchup between the Captains and Ravens as Rosemont comes into the Saturday afternoon bout with a 10-2-5 overall record. Rosemont has not yet lost away from home this season, going 2-0-5 in away games during the 2022 season. Earning their way into the big dance with a 2-1 win over Cairn, Rosemont earned the CSAC Championship and subsequent at-large bid.

The Ravens feature a top-20 scoring offense in the nation this season led by Malher Santiago-Possu with 30 points on ten goals and ten assists. Four players have reached double figures this season while the defense has only allowed 16 goals in 17 games played.

After the CNU/Rosemont tilt, Lynchburg and Catholic will play at 3:30 p.m. with a trip to the second round on the line. The second round matchup will be played at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
