Christopher Newport took down Bridgewater in three sets on Friday night at the Freeman Center.
First Set (Captains 25-17)
Lainie Putt contributed three kills to a 6-0 run that broke a 9-9 tie. Noelle Star later served up two aces to expand the CNU lead before Putt sealed the set with two more kills.
Second Set (Captains 25-17)
The Captains hit .481 in the second set, but it was Bridgewater who took a 14-12 lead midway through the set. But CNU got things going with eight straight points with three aces from Starr. Two kills each from Putt and
Alyssa Dozier put away the Eagles in the second set.
Third Set (Captains 25-18)
Mackenzie Wright,
Megan James, and
Anna Dean put together a string of kills that put CNU out in front. Dean also contributed an ace as part of a six point swing for the Captains, and two aces from
Alyssa Dozier later in the set helped Christopher Newport finish out a decisive three-set victory.
