Christopher Newport battled it out with Salisbury on Sunday afternoon and came out on top in a five set contest.

First Set (Salisbury 25-23)

An ace from Anna Dean was preceded by five straight attacking errors that helped CNU overcome a seven point deficit and tie the score. But Salisbury struck again and moved ahead 23-16. Two kills from Megan James and an error stopped the Sea Gulls' run, and faced with set point, CNU rattled off four straight points. But it wasn't enough to extend the set as Salisbury took set one.

Second Set (Captains 25-21)

Two kills from James and an ace from Julia Gleason put the Captains up 23-17 in the second set. A four point swing for Salisbury brought the Captains lead down to two, but a kill from Mackenzie Wright and an error from Salisbury put away the Sea Gulls and evened the score at one.

Third Set (Salisbury 25-20)

Macy Burk's kill tied the score at 19, but Salisbury took the next two points before Maddie Carter got one back for CNU. However, the Sea Gulls closed out the set quickly after a kill was followed by three straight aces that won the set for Salisbury.

Fourth Set (Captains 26-24)

The Captains erased a 14-8 Salisbury lead with an ace from Megan James and a kill from Carter. Carter later put up two kills to give CNU set point, but the Sea Gulls took the next two points to tie the set at 24. After a service error by Salisbury, Sammy Carroll's ace cliched the fourth set for CNU.

Fifth Set (Captains 15-13)

Alyssa Dozier gave CNU a 13-11 lead with her eighth kill of the match. Salisbury tied the score at 13, but Dozier and James delivered back to back kills to win the set and match for Christopher Newport.

• Mackenzie Wright finished with a season high eight blocks. She has surpassed 300 blocks in her career and moved into the CNU all-time top 10 in blocks.
• Maddie Carter totaled a season high 15 kills.
• The Captains recorded a season high 56 assists and 104 digs on Sunday.
