Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport field hockey team will wrap up its four-game homestand on Monday at noon when the Captains host Susquehanna at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the game, Christopher Newport sits at 10-3 overall, including 6-2 at home. Meanwhile, Susquehanna is 12-3 with a pristine 9-0 record on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of a 2-0 victory over No. 13 Shenandoah last Wednesday. Against the high-powered Hornets, who entered the game with the nation's leading offensive attack, Lily Kerr registered a career-high 13 saves. That equaled the fourth-highest total by a freshman in school history and marked the most by a first-year star since 2003.

Along with Kerr, Chloe Thompson chipped in with a pair of defensive saves, becoming just the 10th player in program history to record two stops against a nationally-ranked opponent. Meanwhile, on the other side of the field, Maddison Steele collected the game-winning goal, while Marcella Sabbagh added insurance after converting her record-setting fifth penalty stroke of the year.

In addition to Kerr's work between the pipes, Wednesday's battle continued to showcase the program's youth movement. Along with their standout goalie, freshmen Gwendolyn Via and Brie Mallozzi were also on the field when the final horn sounded, while fellow classmate Emily Evans saw 37 minutes of action.

For her work this year, Kerr currently leads the NCAA with a .929 save percentage, while her 0.24 goals-against-average is the second-best in the country. The squad also boasts eight shutouts, which is tied for the third-most in the nation.

Meanwhile, on the offensive end, Christopher Newport is averaging 3.69 goals per game, which ranks in the top-25 nationally. On an individual level, Emma Logue is fourth in the conference with seven goals, and Abby Asuncion is third with six assists.

Susquehanna comes into the weekend on a nine-game winning streak, including a 2-1 double-overtime triumph at Catholic on Saturday. Against the Cardinals, Annalee Smith deposited the equalizer with less than four minutes left in regulation before Sarah McAndrews landed the clincher in the 76th minute.

Overall this season, Smith leads Susquehanna with 10 goals and 22 points, while McAndrews has seven strikes. Kari Schmidt also has a team-high seven assists, including a helper on the game-winner against Catholic. On the other end, Mackenzie Bross has a 1.14 goals-against-average and a .746 save percentage.

Monday's matchup will mark only the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Susquehanna won the previous bout, 1-0, last season in Pennsylvania.

Following Monday's action, Christopher Newport will continue its week with a trip to Rhodes on Friday at noon.
