Captains Take 12-Game Winning Streak West to Play Back-to-Back Games at Cal-Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Christopher Newport University travels to Santa Cruz, California, for two games this weekend, as the ninth-ranked Captains look to add to their 12-game winning streak. John Krikorian's squad plays at the University of California-Santa Cruz Friday and Saturday night. Both games at the Kaiser-Permanente Arena will tip off at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The trip to the Golden State is the first ever in the 54-year history of CNU men's basketball. The Captains last traveled to the far west in December of 2008, playing three games in the Cactus Jam Holiday Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Captains raised their record to 15-2 on Monday with an 88-52 Freeman Center victory over the College of New Jersey. Fifth-year senior Jason Aigner led the way with an 18-point performance, one of four Captains to reach double digits in the scoring column. Aigner is now 15th on the all-time scoring list, just seven points behind Jermaine Woods for 14th place. Sophomore Trey Barber registered his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds on Martin Luther King Jr. Day as the Captains improved to 11-0 at home this season.

Cal-Santa Cruz, a fellow member of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, is 2-13 on the year and the Banana Slugs have lost nine straight games. Most recently, the Slugs lost on the road Tuesday night, dropping a 93-45 decision at Division II San Francisco State.

All Captains men's games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM). The pre-game show on Friday and Saturday night will begin at 9:40 p.m. The live broadcast from Santa Cruz will be available by clicking HERE.
