Captains Win Three Straight Sets to down Bridgewater

After dropping the first set, Christopher Newport Volleyball won the next three sets in a row to take down Bridgewater on the road, 3-1.

First Set (Bridgewater 26-24)

Bridgewater scored four straight points early, but the Captains remained within striking distance. Macy Burk contributed six kills to the Captains effort in the first set, as CNU went on a 7-2 run to bring the score even at 24. But after a timeout, the Eagles won the next two points to take the first set.

Second Set (Captains 25-12)

The Captains strung together five separate scoring runs of three or more in this set on their way to a dominant 25-12 set win to even the match score. The Eagles made 10 errors with three kills in the second set, while on the other side of the net, CNU registered 10 kills with just three errors.

Third Set (Captains 25-15)

The CNU attack was firing on all cylinders again, hitting .455 in the third set with 11 kills and just a single error. Maddie Carter had five of those, including four kills in the set-ending 9-2 run. CNU led 16-12 prior to the run that closed out the set and moved the Captains out to a 2-1 match lead.

Fourth Set (Captains 25-21)

Neither side was able to gain much of a lead in the early part of the fourth set. With the score tied at 15, Anna Dean's two kills were followed by Maddie Carter's two kills, which was then followed by back-to-back service aces from Macy Burk. Now in the driver's seat with a 20-16 lead, the Captains fended off a late Eagle rally to take the set and the match.
