Last Time Out
Christopher Newport looked unstoppable in Friday's sweep of Emory & Henry. The Captains allowed just 22 points and held their opposition to a -.058 hitting percentage, both the lowest for any CNU opponent this season. The sweep was CNU's ninth win in a row, and in that stretch, the Captains have only dropped four sets. Freshman libero Noelle Starr was perfect in serve receive for the eighth match this season which certainly limited Emory & Henry's opportunities in Friday night's match. Meanwhile, Christopher Newport's attack was balanced with 12 different players scoring a point with 10 registering a kill.
By The Numbers
100
Christopher Newport now has five attackers with over 100 points through the season's first 14 games.
Anna Dean was the latest Captain to join the club, now with 107 points entering the week. She joins
Maddie Carter,
Kyla McIntyre,
Mackenzie Wright, and
Macy Burk to fill out a deep CNU attacking core.
Series History
This will mark the 40th meeting between the Captains and Eagles. CNU has won four straight, including a 3-1 victory in 2019 that captured the conference championship for the Captains.
Scouting the Eagles
Mary Washington is 11-6 on the season, a record that includes a nine-match winning streak of their own. The Eagles won nine straight matches between September 7th and 22nd, but are currently on a three-match losing streak. After Friday's loss to Brockport put an end to their winning streak, the Eagles lost both of their matches on Saturday to close out the week. Emma Hadley has been solid for the Eagles in both attacking and blocking. The sophomore has posted the conference's fifth-best hitting percentage (.319) while ranking second with 0.94 blocks per set.
