Christopher Newport Volleyball Blanks Emory & Henry to Win Ninth Straight

Christopher Newport Volleyball stifled the Emory and Henry attack on Friday night, allowing just 22 points, in a 3-0 victory that brings the Captains' win streak up to nine.

First Set (Captains 25-13)

CNU led the first set wire-to-wire, surging out to an 8-3 lead. It was a team effort Captains, with seven different players scoring a point in the first set. CNU was strong on defense too as Emory & Henry could muster only two kills. Kyla McIntyre and Anna Dean led the team with four kills each in this set. McIntyre sparked a 5-0 run for CNU with three straight kills, and also started the 3-0 run that saw Julia Gleason deliver an ace for the Captains' set-winning point.

Second Set (Captains 25-15)

Christopher Newport maintained a steady lead throughout the second set. Though they didn't score in bunches, they consistently responded to any threats posed by Emory & Henry. The Wasps never scored more than two in-a-row, often because of errors caused by the strong CNU defense. The Captains' final five points of the set came off of errors, including a reception error from a Noelle Starr service ace. Starr's ace made her the eighth different Captain to score in the second set, as CNU moved out to a 2-0 match lead.

Third Set (Captains 25-18)

A quick, 5-1 start set the tone for the third set. Both the CNU attack and defense were relentless, posting two kills and forcing three errors in that 5-1 run. Leading 12-8, Anna Dean drove home a kill to regain the serve for herself and the Captains. She proceeded to roll off two aces as part of a 5-0 CNU run. Dean would finish the set with a block, a kill, and an ace helping CNU cruise to another set win and match sweep.
