ASHLAND, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will kick off the week of action with a road trip to Randolph-Macon College on Monday night for a 7:30 pm start. The Captains (4-0-0) will face the Yellow Jackets (3-3-0) on Nunnally Field.
For fans unable to attend, live stats and a live video webcast will be available through the R-MC Athletic Department.
CNU and Randolph-Macon have played six times in the all-time series with the Captains holding a 5-1 advantage. The Yellow Jackets won the first match in 1998 but Christopher Newport has run off five straight in the head-to-head, including a 1-0 win in 2015 in the last matchup between the two programs.
The Captains have paired a scorching offense with a stingy defense, outscoring opponents by a count of 16-2 through the first four games. CNU currently has the 13th-ranked scoring offense in the nation, averaging 4.0 goals per game while also posting a top-50 mark in goals-against average (0.494).
Four CNU players have logged multiple goals this season with
Sarah Smith leading the charge scoring three goals and adding one assist for a team-high seven points.
Riley Cook,
Ryanne Davidson, and
Molly Beegle have each scored twice while seven more Captains have found the back of the net already this season.
Defensively,
Haley Eiser has done the bulk of the work in net for the Captains with a shutout and three wins. She has allowed one goal while making eight saves over the first 244+ minutes in goal. Playing in front of her, the young defensive back has impressed with
Nyah Savage,
Re Slater, and
Sarah Rhiel starting all four contests on defense.
Randolph-Macon comes into the Monday night contest riding a modest two-game winning streak and sophomore forward Olivia Owens was named the ODAC Player of the Week. Owens scored three goals and one assist in the two wins for R-MC and leads the team in scoring with eight points so far.
Following Monday night's matchup, the Captains will pack their bags for the Golden State as they will travel to California for a pair of matches this weekend.
