Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Over three days in Annapolis, Md. the Christopher Newport men's tennis tema played over 40 matches against Division I competition. The experience included ten wins for the Captains program at the Joe Hunt Invitational while facing opponents from Navy, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Mason, and St. Bonaventure. 

In Sunday's final round of action, Alec Strause and Eddy Porsmyr Hansen each grabbed singles wins for the Captains while Dawson Driscoll and Mason Kolls squeaked by a Navy pairing for a doubles win. 

Hansen had the finest singles performance of the weekend for the Captains with a pair of wins. The one on Sunday did not come easy as he faced one of Navy's Garner brothers in a marathon. The Captains' sophomore dropped a 6-2 decision in the first set before bouncing back to take the second set 7-6. In the superbreaker third, the two players went back-and-forth into extra points. It was Porsmyr Hansen that outlasted his Division I foe, capturing a 12-10 win for the Captains. 

Also winning in singles play, Strause captured a straight set 6-2, 6-4 win over Eshan Kanetkar out of St. Joseph's University. 

The lone doubles victory of the day for CNU came from Mason Kolls and Dawson Driscoll against Navy's Liu/Ballesteros pairing. The match was won, 7-6, by the CNU tandem, who grabbed a pair of wins over the weekend. Driscoll and Kolls also defeated a St. Bonaventure duo, 6-3, on Friday. 

The Joe Hunt Invitational served as the final tune-up for the Captains' fall before taking on the ITA Southeast Regional Championship field in the first week of October. CNU will travel to Mary Washington for the regional tournament between October 1-3.
