Jackson Deal, Zac Hanway, and Max Wayne Earn Coast-to-Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse All-Tournament Honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After guiding the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team to its first appearance in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship, Jackson Deal, Zac Hanway, and Max Wayne were named to the All-Tournament squad for their efforts during the league playoffs.

During the postseason, the three Captains led Christopher Newport to a 14-11 victory over Southern Virginia in the semifinals before falling to No. 3 Salisbury, 12-9, in the conference championship.

Anchoring the midfield unit, Deal posted four points, including three goals, during the playoffs. He opened his award-winning stretch on Wednesday with two strikes against Southern Virginia while helping the Captains secure a commanding 12-2 lead in the first half. Three days later, he came back with two more points in the championship bout. His final goal of the postseason cut Salisbury's lead down to 11-9 with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

While Deal was doing damage on the offensive side, Hanway was starring between the pipes. During his two appearances, the sophomore goalie compiled a .521 save percentage while registering 25 total stops. Posting back-to-back double-digit save efforts, he stoned 13 shots against SVU before adding 12 more stops against Salisbury on Saturday. He also matched his career-high with five ground balls in both games while adding a caused turnover during the win over the Knights.

Equally effective on the defensive side, Wayne was a force on the back line. During the playoffs, the senior collected a team-high three caused turnovers while notching four ground balls. He scooped up three rollers and forced a miscue in the semifinal win over Southern Virginia before adding two takeaways and another ground ball against Salisbury in the championship. His work was also essential in helping the man-down unit withstand all eight of the opposition's extra-man opportunities during the postseason.

Overall this season, Wayne ranks fourth in the league with 24 caused turnovers, and Hanway is second with a .510 save percentage and 11.21 goals-against-average. Additionally, Deal is fifth among conference competitors with a .500 shooting percentage while boasting 17 goals and 24 total points.
