Jason Aigner Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In recognition of his career performance on the floor and in the classroom, Jason Aigner was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection on Thursday afternoon as the Christopher Newport senior men's basketball star was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

With the selection, Aigner becomes just the third CNU men's basketball player to earn the prestigious honor, joining Jacob Capin (2010-11) and Hunter Wetherell (2015-16). He is the 48th selection in CNU Athletics history and the 36th different athlete to garner the recognition.

Aigner will now be nominated among the rest of the first team All-District selections for CoSIDA Academic All-America plaudits. The CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District teams are the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes. All nominees must have a GPA of 3.30 or above and be a starter or important reserve.

This year, the Christopher Newport men's basketball team did not compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Aigner took the opportunity to continue to excel off the floor. The rising senior is majoring in History and was an NABC Honors Court selection in 2019-20. That season, he helped Christopher Newport earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and became a three-time Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection.

While his legacy on the court was static in 2020-21, his accomplishments prior to this year were enough for voters to recognize Aigner's exceptional resume. He was named a second team All-District selection by the NABC as a junior following a season in which he became the program's all-time leader in three-point shooting. He has connected for 271 three-pointers and shoots almost 43 percent from long range. In his third year, Aigner knocked down 101 triples in 29 games played.

A dominant figure in the Captains' back court, Aigner is a two-time All-Conference selection and has helped CNU reach three straight NCAA Tournaments including the program's second Final Four appearance in 2019. During his tenure, the Captains are 74-17 with a 35-7 record in conference play.
