FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following an impressive regular season finale, Christopher Newport senior center fielder
Conner Clark was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Clark helped Christopher Newport to a doubleheader split against St. Mary's College of Maryland as the Captains wrapped up the regular season with a 19-9 overall record and 11-5 mark in conference play.
Following a Senior Day recognition ceremony, Clark wasted little time making an impact by smacking a base hit in his second at-bat. He then promptly made history, stealing two bases to tie the Christopher Newport record for swipes in a career. The record was set by Brian Gunn in 1997 and has not been threatened in the nearly 25 years since.
Aside from the history-making trip around the basepaths, Clark was also 5-for-9 with a walk at the plate, reaching base in half of his 10 plate appearances. He drove in a pair and scored once with a double.
Clark is the fourth different player to earn Player of the Week accolades for the Captains this season joining
Eric O'Brien (March 8),
Kyle Schofield (March 15), and
Jay Cassady (April10).
Matt Gaither (March 8) and
Dylan Weber (March 29) have also earned Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Christopher Newport will return to action this Friday, May 14 as the #2 seed in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, hosting St. Mary's (Md.) and Mary Washington in the first weekend of action.
