NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The fourth Captain to earn a spot on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week this season, Christopher Newport senior Ryan Morrison was named to the honored group this week following his historic pitching performance against St. Mary's College of Maryland. 

Morrison joins Jackson Baird (twice), Cooper Newell, and Logan Adams as members of the National Team of the Week this season. 

The senior from South Riding, Va. registered the second no-hitter in program history when he blanked St. Mary's on Sunday, March 29 in front of over 400 fans. In his career-best performance, Morrison joined only Eben Brower versus York (Pa.) on May 2, 2004 for the only no-no's in CNU baseball history. He allowed just three base runners and did not allow any of them to advance beyond first base while facing just three more than the minimum over 7.0 innings pitched. 

Morrison struck out a career-high eight batters and induced 10 groundball outs in the impressive overall performance as he improved to 2-0 on the season. During the no-hitter, he retired the side in order four times in seven innings pitched. Of the contact he did allow, the majority was soft groundballs up the middle as second baseman Sam Benedict had five assists and one putout while rookie shortstop Jake Mutter added three assists and one putout. 

The left-handed starting pitcher is 9-3 over the course of his career in 14 starts and 33 total pitching appearances. He has 81 strikeouts over 101.0 innings pitched since joining the Captains lineup in 2023. 

Christopher Newport returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 to face North Carolina Wesleyan University. First pitch from Captains Park is set for 3:00 p.m.
