NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Making up a match that was originally scheduled for last Friday, the Christopher Newport women's tennis team rolled past Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon. The Captains won, 9-0, and improved to 6-5 on the season while the Marlins dropped to 8-7.
Christopher Newport won by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. In the rest of the matches, the Captains won convincingly to end a three-match skid.
In doubles action,
Tessa Trate and
Amanda Yermal continued their hot streak, improving to 7-3 on the season on the No. 1 line. The CNU duo defeated Audrey Bally and Alexa Brewster by a final score of 8-4. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Ana Clara Borga and
Karina Crivtonencu earned their first career victory as a pairing, capturing an 8-3 win over Christine Zalameda and Shannon Lewes.
Junior
Lucy Davis and sophomore
Kendra Womack each kept their perfect seasons alive as they improved to 5-0 on the season. Womack played against Lewes at No. 4, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and Davis defeated Sophia Bibbo by the same score at No. 5.
Crivtonencu moved up a slot and played her first career match at No. 3, capturing the win in straight sets over Bally (6-2, 6-3). Senior
Kara Ferner also moved up for a win at No. 2 against Zalameda (6-0, 6-0).
Rounding out the shutout victory was junior
Reagan Delp at No. 1, dropping just three games to Brewster before finishing out a win (6-3, 6-0).
Christopher Newport will close out the regular season on May 2 against Johns Hopkins University. Match time will be Noon.
